Overlocks
An overlock machine trims the fabric edge, finishes it and creates a flexible, durable seam in one operation. It is especially useful for sewing knitwear and stretch fabrics, making garments and producing neat internal finishes.
Our range includes 2–5 thread overlock machines from Janome, Brother, JUKI, ELNA, Husqvarna Viking, TEXI and other manufacturers. Models are available for beginners, experienced users and professional sewing. Delivery is available to parcel lockers and by courier throughout Latvia.
How to choose an overlock machine
The right overlock depends on the fabrics you use, the type of projects you sew and the seams you need. A 3/4-thread model is normally sufficient for everyday garment sewing. Five-thread machines and combined functions may be useful for intensive work, demanding materials and professional finishing.
Number of threads and stitch types
A four-thread seam is strong and commonly used to join knit garment pieces. A three-thread seam is suitable for edge finishing, while two-thread stitches provide a lighter finish for delicate fabrics. Compare the stitches you will actually use rather than choosing only by the largest advertised number.
Differential feed
Differential feed helps prevent stretch fabrics from becoming wavy and lightweight fabrics from puckering. It can also be used to create decorative gathering. The available adjustment range is particularly important when sewing knitwear, elastic fabrics or very fine materials.
Threading and everyday use
Overlock threads are changed regularly, so easy access to the loopers, a colour-coded threading guide and assisted or air threading can make a significant difference. Also compare free-arm capability, lighting, a waste collector and the presser feet included with the machine.
Does an overlock replace a sewing machine?
No. A sewing machine produces straight stitches, zigzag, buttonholes and other construction seams, while an overlock mainly trims and finishes fabric edges. A coverstitch machine is designed for professional hems on knit garments. These machines are often used together for complete garment construction.

Frequently asked questions
Which overlock is suitable for a beginner?
A beginner will usually benefit from an easy-to-adjust 3/4-thread overlock with a clear threading guide, differential feed and available service support. Convenient threading is often more valuable than a very large number of stitches.
Is an overlock necessary for sewing knitwear?
Knit fabrics can also be sewn with a suitable stretch stitch on a regular sewing machine. An overlock, however, joins the pieces, trims the edge and creates a flexible finish in one operation.
Can ordinary sewing thread be used in an overlock?
It can be used in many cases, but large cones of overlock thread are more convenient and economical for bigger projects. Always follow the instructions for your model and select thread suitable for the fabric.
